Democranot is a competitive political board game for two to four players, set in the fictional parliamentary democracy of Harondar. Four asymmetric parties: the National Renewal Party, the Progressive Alliance, the Green Warriors, and the Workers' Future, compete across a sixteen-turn parliamentary term to win control of thirteen contested territories. Each party has its own strengths and weaknesses, and special abilities that reflect how that kind of politics actually works.
Players draw five cards from a shared policy card deck at the beginning of the game and spend each turn playing a card to convert voter populations across Harondar's territories. The board is divided into four demographic groups: Heartland, Metro, The Workers, and the Fringe, each of which responds differently to different policy types. Getting the right policy in front of the right demographic is the core strategic challenge, and every party has bonuses and penalties for targeting different demographics.
The twist is the Radicalisation Track. Sectarian cards are the most powerful type of policy card in the deck and the only cards that can target the Fringe demographic. But every time one is played, by any party, the shared Track advances by one. If it reaches ten, all players lose simultaneously regardless of who was winning. Every Sectarian play is a rational individual choice and a collective risk. At the end of Turn 16, the party controlling the most territories wins.
