The captain is retiring, and the crew competes to take his place. Players are left on the Island of Booty, where they draw and play cards to uncover treasure, steal from rivals, and protect their own haul before the captain returns.
Players collect treasure cards with point values while action cards change hands, block opponents, and trigger confrontations. When the game-ending condition is reached, the player with the highest total treasure value becomes the new captain and wins.
