The Vietnam War (called the “American War” in Vietnam) lasted from 1965 – 1975. Starting in 1964, the Gulf of Tonkin incident escalated U.S. military involvement. In 1965, the U.S. send first troops to Vietnam: On March 8, 1965, 3,800 U.S. Marines landed at Da Nang in South Vietnam to support the ARVN Troops. The Paris Peace Accords of January 27, 1973 led to U.S withdrawal; on March, 29, 1973 the last GI left South Vietnam. For the U.S. Vietnam War was over, but it still raged on until 1975: The Fall of Saigon in 1975 marks the end of the Vietnam War with the reunification of Vietnam under communist rule.
