In the mythical realm of Elemental Dragons, players embark on a journey to harness the powers of the four elemental suits: earth, water, fire, and air. The goal? To amass a hoard of precious dragon gems, the coveted currency of this world. But beware, for amidst the riches lie hidden dangers in the form of dragon eggs, which bring negative scores to those unfortunate enough to acquire them.
In Elemental Dragons, players engage in a battle of wits, employing elemental powers to outmaneuver their opponents. Each round, players compete to win tricks by playing cards of higher value and utilizing the unique abilities of the powerful dragon cards.
At the outset, a dominant suit is randomly determined. Then, the first player to play a card sets the lesser dominant suit if their played card does not belong to the dominant suit. Thus, the order of precedence emerges: dominant suit, followed by the lesser suit, with the remaining two suits only useful in this round for their powers. The dragon's powers will enable you to change the dominant suit, steal gems from the trick, and poison the trick with eggs among other things. Each player plays a card either to try to win the trick, or to play a useful power for them, or both. Then there is a second round of card exchange, offering players the opportunity to exchange their initial card for another, only if the new card can win the trick. Players also can choose to "downgrade" their card for an egg card, poisoning that trick for the winner by nullifying gems from the final score.
This mechanic injects an element of bluff and double-bluff into the gameplay, as players must carefully consider when to reveal their most potent cards and when to conceal their true intentions.
As the game unfolds, players must carefully balance their pursuit of dragon gems with the risk of acquiring detrimental dragon eggs. Enter the world of Elemental Dragons and unleash the power of the elements in this thrilling trick-taking adventure.
