PHALANX
The Kōkeisha Expansion introduces a new playable role to Sovereign: Shōgun: the Heir.
This expansion changes the political rhythm of the table by adding a figure who does not rule like the other Daimyō, but still reaches into their wars, their domains, and their ambitions. The Heir moves through Japan by influence, pressure, favors, taxes, temples, and carefully chosen moments of intervention.
Kōkeisha gives the game a sharper diplomatic edge. The Heir may support armies, influence neutral forces, build monasteries, gather gold, and pressure the Daimyō into cooperation. Each Japanese player must decide when it is worth accepting the Heir’s presence, and when refusal becomes the better choice. That creates a new layer of tension.
The Heir is not simply another power on the map. It is a political force that can attach itself to the plans of others, profit from their victories, and turn hesitation or refusal into long-term consequences. The Daimyō may still be fighting for the title of Shōgun, but now someone else is watching, collecting influence, and building a claim of their own.
With monasteries, minor commanders, betrayal tokens, neutral units, bonus cards, and a unique action system, Kōkeisha adds a fresh strategic voice to the game while keeping the struggle deeply interactive. For groups that want more diplomacy, more negotiation, more pressure between players, and a bold new role inside the war for Japan, Kōkeisha is a powerful expansion to the Sovereign experience.
